Food Pantry
The Shepherd's Green Community Food Pantry is a faith and community-based ministry that calls St. John's home. With volunteers from many faith traditions, several local and international service organizations, and as always--caring individuals from throughout our community, 2012 was another busy year.
The Green receives funding from local churches, individuals, and local business establishments. We work actively with 2nd Harvest Food Bank of Erie and receive many food donations from fund-raising events throughout Venango County. Supervisory personnel and young men from Vision Quest give hours each month to help unload the thousands of pounds of food purchased from 2nd Harvest. There were over 2,000 recorded volunteer hours this year.
We gather together with our neighbors and friends prior to distribution of food in order to share words of prayer--thanksgivings and petitions. Blood pressure monitoring is available. Coffee and hot chocolate are provided. The ministry is as much about Christian presence, human touch and a hunger to be with others as it is about feeding bodily. Our time together is spent in seeking a better understanding of the soul-sickness that is our human brokenness.
Distribution is on the 4th Saturday of the month beginning at 8:00 a.m. for set-up and 9:30 a.m. for distribution. Please prayerfully consider if you feel God is calling you to this important ministry of bodily feeding of our friends and neighbors and the gift of your Christian presence.
