Tiffany Window History

The Tiffany Windows were installed at St. John's over the course of many years, from 1901 to 1917. The stone church which had been on the property burned almost completely down in 1900 and had to be rebuilt. Because Franklin had been going through the oil boom at the time, the new stone church was completed quickly and many members of the congregation donated money for stained glass windows to be made and installed by Tiffany Studios out of New York. The triptychs, the sets of three thematic windows, along the sides of the church were each purchased for around $2,000. The Rose Window and Jesus and the Evangelists were installed first and then the triptychs.

In the 1980's the Tiffany Windows were appraised for around $16 million. In the late 1990's, the congregation decided to do a restoration project with the Windows and had them cleaned, repaired, and restored.
